Building Equity Based Summers for California Libraries and Communities

The California State Library, and the Summer at Your Library project, launched a new project focused on co-designing an equity and social justice framework for summer reading program activities and services. The Year 1 Co-Design team was made up of 12 California library teams working Consultants Linda Braun and LaKesha Kimbrough, the State Library and CLA’s Summer At Your Library Project staff. While helping to develop the framework, the Co-Designers had the  chance to explore their own communities, gain insights into the assets available in the community, and discover how to connect summer programming to equity based summer services. This equity and social justice framework for summer reading program activities and services builds on CLA’s Summer @ Your Library’s Quality Principles, in particular, Quality Principle IV: Summer @ Your Library is designed to reach and engage everyone.
