Reading by Design Software

CLA’s summer reading software provides libraries with robust, open source software designed to manage summer reading programs. Features include:

  • family accounts that make it easy to sign up multiple readers
  • digital badges and activities to encourage participation and increase engagement
  • customizable programs for all ages, baby to adult
  • built-in reporting and evaluation tools
  • built-in assessment tools designed to capture participants’ pre- and post-summer reading skills and demonstrate program impact

The software and support are free for California libraries through summer 2017. The library community is encouraged to actively participate in the software development by providing feedback and sharing best practices. CLA will:

  • host summer reading software
  • provide documentation, instructional videos, and webinars to assist library staff
  • provide software support to library staff
  • manage the RBD listserv and website where staff can share information and resources

CLA’s summer reading software project is supported by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.
